From the office of Karen Galenzoski, Chief Human Resources Officer

Covenant Health is committed to providing a safe place to work for our employees, physicians, volunteers, students and contractors; and a safe environment for visitors and patients/residents.

As part of Bill 30: An Act to Protect the Health and Well-being of Albertans, the following are highlighted changes to the Alberta Occupational Health and Safety Act, Regulation and Code that will come into effect on June 1, 2018, for all industries.

The purpose of the changes are to promote and maintain the physical, psychological and social well-being of workers; to prevent incidents, injuries, illnesses, and disease; to protect workers from conditions adverse to their health and safety; and to protect workers’ rights to know, participate and refuse dangerous work.

The legislative changes that will impact Covenant Health include:

  • Fundamental rights of workers
  • Dangerous work (previously “Imminent Danger”)
  • Harassment
  • Violence
  • Worker responsibilities
  • Supervisor responsibilities
  • Employer responsibilities
  • Workers protection from discriminatory action
  • Reporting serious injuries and incidents
  • Joint worksite health, safety & wellness committees
  • Offences and penalties
