Medical Assistance in Dying (MAID)

As a Catholic health care organization, and in keeping with its mission and ethical tradition, Covenant Health will not be providing Medical Assistance in Dying or assisted suicide or voluntary euthanasia in our facilities.  We will continue, however, to respond to people in our care who verbalize a request for assisted death.

This compassionate response will involve exploring the nature of the person's request while appropriately addressing their pain and symptom management needs along with the provision of all other psychosocial and spiritual resources.

Covenant Health remains firmly committed to the provision of quality, compassionate palliative, hospice and end-of-life care, for which it is a recognized leader.  Please see the short video by Dr. Owen Heisler, VP Medicine and Chief Medical Officer, and Dr. Gordon Self, VP Mission, Ethics and Spirituality, who describe Covenant Health's position.
